HIVE Digital Technologies is a Canadian artificial intelligence infrastructure play. The cryptocurrency miner and high-performance computing company has been making a major strategic shift toward AI and GPU cloud services, and its latest announcement has put the stock firmly in the spotlight.

HIVE announced that its BUZZ High Performance Computing subsidiary signed a five-year GPU cloud-services agreement worth approximately US$350 million with an investment-grade enterprise customer. The agreement is expected to generate approximately US$70 million in annualized revenue, providing HIVE with a significant new source of recurring revenue. The company plans to deploy 2,016 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs as part of the contract, with deployment expected during the fourth quarter of 2026.

The deal is particularly important because it demonstrates HIVE’s transition from being primarily a Bitcoin mining company into a broader digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence business. HIVE has been investing heavily in high-performance computing infrastructure as demand for AI computing capacity continues to grow. The company believes its existing power infrastructure and data-centre capabilities give it an opportunity to participate in the rapidly expanding AI economy.

HIVE’s AI business has already secured several significant contracts. In June, the company announced a US$220 million sovereign AI GPU contract involving Bell AI Fabric and Cohere, further strengthening its position in Canada’s emerging AI infrastructure market. HIVE has also announced plans for a 320-megawatt AI infrastructure facility in the Greater Toronto Area, which could eventually support more than 100,000 GPUs.

The company’s financial performance is also beginning to reflect its expansion. HIVE reported approximately US$297.8 million in fiscal 2026 revenue, representing a 158% increase year over year, while adjusted EBITDA reached approximately US$72.9 million. Its contracted high-performance computing annual recurring revenue had reached approximately US$35 million at the end of the fiscal year, before the latest US$350 million agreement.

For investors, HIVE offers exposure to two major technology trends: cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence. Its Bitcoin mining business provides one source of revenue, while its growing AI and high-performance computing operation could become an increasingly important part of the company over the next several years. The AI business could also provide greater revenue visibility through long-term contracts compared with the more volatile economics of cryptocurrency mining.

The stock has attracted considerable attention following the latest announcement. HIVE shares finished around C$4.24, representing a gain of approximately 14% on the day. The strong move reflects investor enthusiasm surrounding the company’s expanding AI business and the potential revenue impact of its new contracts.

Based on the C$4.24 share price and a 12-month price target of C$9.75, the implied potential upside is approximately 130%. The analyst consensus rating is currently rated as a “Buy”, while technical indicatorsare producing a “Strong Buy” signal.

A major risk to the the thesis, is HIVE remains exposed to the volatility of Bitcoin prices, while its AI expansion requires substantial investment in GPUs, data centres, electricity and other infrastructure. There is also execution risk because the company must successfully deploy the equipment and maintain the performance and reliability required by its customers. In addition, a large increase in the share price can lead to short-term profit-taking and increased volatility.

HIVE Digital Technologies is becoming an increasingly interesting Canadian growth story as it expands beyond cryptocurrency mining and into artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company’s US$350 million GPU cloud agreement, combined with its other AI contracts and planned data-centre expansion, gives investors a potential way to participate in the rapidly growing demand for AI computing capacity. With an projected upside of approximately 130%, HIVE is a high-risk, high-growth stock worth watching, particularly for investors who believe the demand for AI infrastructure will continue to accelerate.
