Honda Reveals New EV-Ny1 SUV

Honda Motor Corp.

Honda is set to launch its second all-electric vehicle model in Europe, known as the e:Ny1. This subcompact electric crossover aims to provide a more mainstream alternative to Honda’s city car, the Honda e. While it may resemble the HR-V, Honda claims that the e:Ny1 is a distinct vehicle with its own unique features.

The e:Ny1 is built on the e:N Architecture F platform, which is a front-motor-driven platform specifically designed for electric vehicles. It is equipped with a 68.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, providing an estimated range of 256 miles (412 kilometers) on the WLTP cycle. The battery supports DC fast charging and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 45 minutes.

Powering the e:Ny1 is a three-in-one integrated power drive unit, electric motor, and gearbox, delivering 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts) and 228 pound-feet (310 Newton-meters) of torque. Honda highlights the improved torsional rigidity of the all-new chassis developed for this electric vehicle, ensuring responsive driving dynamics and premium levels of ride comfort.

In terms of design, the e:Ny1 closely resembles its Chinese counterparts, the Honda e:NS1 and e:NP1. It features subtle design elements such as white “H” badges, both inside and outside the vehicle, and new “Honda” lettering on the tailgate. The interior boasts an updated center console with physical buttons, multiple storage options, wireless charging, and a large 15.1-inch touchscreen.

Honda plans to release the e:Ny1 in the European market in the coming months, but pricing details have not been disclosed. UK media reports suggest that the electric crossover will have a starting price of around $37,500 (30,000 pounds) in Britain. This places the e:Ny1 in competition with other electric B-segment SUVs like the Peugeot e-2008, Jeep Avenger, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Kia Niro EV.

Tom Gardner, Senior Vice President at Honda Motor Europe Ltd, expressed the company’s commitment to electrification and described the e:Ny1 as the logical next step in Honda’s electrification journey. With its range, performance, and appealing features, the e:Ny1 aims to attract customers seeking an all-electric SUV in the European market.
